When we started looking for knives to carry, I, who has only gone hunting once with my husband, came across a lot of terms that I needed to learn. I thought there might be the possibility that some of you guys who are a little under informed as well. I am going to share a few things that I learned.
Tanto knives have a Japanes sword-like appearance and are extremely strong. Tanto knives are thin enough to puncture or stab. They are reinforced to be thick enough to withstand most abuse you dish out.
They are hollow ground which means that the thick spine tapers to a razor sharp edge. The cutting edge of a tanto knife has two angles. The long straight cutting edge is the primary grind. The smaller portion of the blade curves up. It is the secondary grind. These knives must be carefully sharpened. The angle must be adjusted for the separate grinds.
We carry some tanto blade knives in the Gerber and Economy pages of our website. Why not take a look?
